What is Thelema?
Thelema can be defined as a metaphysical philosophy which whilst being considered to be a religion in some parts of the world is more biased towards personal spiritual advancement rather than group-based worship.
Who created Thelema?
The principles of Thelemic belief were established and promoted by the early 20th century British writer and ceremonial magician, Aleister Crowley.
What is the Holy Book of Thelema?
The primary religious, or mystical, text that underpins Thelemic philosophy is Liber AL vel Legis, or ‘The Book of the Law’.
Where did the Book of the Law come from?
Liber AL was dictated to Aleister Crowley whilst on vacation in Cairo, Egypt in 1904. From this Crowley was, rather reluctantly at first, led to understand that he was in fact the prophet of a new age of spiritual awakening.
What is this New Age?
Thelemic principles establishes that the world’s spiritual and religious development can be split into three distinct phases. These are denoted as the Aeon of Osiris, the Aeon of Isis and a new one that Crolwey predicted mankind would soon be entering, the Aeon of Horus.
